Jammin’ at the Gibbs House

Veteran vibraphonist Terry Gibbs has played with all the jazz greats, including Charlie Parker, Dizzy Gillespie, and Benny Goodman. This jazz icon is joined by his son Gerry on drums, John Campbell on piano and Mike Gurrola on bass. Recorded in his living room, the 92-year-old master doesn’t miss a beat. All the tracks were done in a single take.

Wynton Kelly Trio ft. Wes Montgomery    "Jingles"     Smokin’ In Seattle

Originally broadcast as a live radio concert from the Penthouse in Seattle in 1966, this session was produced by Jim Wilke, a broadcast legend who is still active at KNKX. Wes Montgomery’s chemistry with pianist Kelly is superb. They are both very lyrical players who were sensitive to each other’s space. The Penthouse jazz club was actually a small room on the ground floor. The recording mix is remarkable and young bassist Ron McClure fits in well with veteran drummer Jimmy Cobb.

Hudson    "Lay Lady Lay"     Hudson

Bob Dylan’s “Lay Lady Lay” is given a reggae beat by this all-star band. Jack DeJohnette (drums) Larry Grenadier (bass), John Medeski (organ) and John Scofield (guitar). This adventurous group is part of Mondavi Center’s live jazz offering this season.

Yoko Miwa Trio     "Court and Spark"     Pathways

Joni Mitchell’s composition is jazzed up by this great young pianist. Yoko is joined by Will Slater on bass and Scot Goulding on drums.
