Sacramento, CA
Musicians usually listen to their music over and over again before releasing it to the public but Sacramentan Brian Chris Rogers and others broke that norm for a documentary.
The music-eduation project was for the Nicaraguan United States of American Musicians. Musicians from the group traveled to Penas Blancas, Nicaragua to record and play on 67 songs written by local songwriters and bands.
The NUSAM CD and documentary of the entire process are being released this weekend, with all of the proceeds earmarked to buy school supplies for the children of Penas Blancas. The release date is June 3 in Sacramento and June 8 in San Francisco.
Rogers talks about why he traveled to the rainforests of Nicaragua, how he combines his music with activism and what it was like to perform for actor Chris Tucker.
