A UC Davis professor who is considered an authority on race and urban communities has released a new book that traces the social history of Harlem through the lens of one family.
In “Down the Up Staircase,” Bruce Haynes and co-author Syma Solovitch examine the nature of status and success among the black middle class as it pertains to three generations of Haynes’ own family.
The authors will discuss the book this Friday at 7:30 p.m. at the Avid Reader in Davis.
