Arts critic Jeff Hudson joins us on Sound Advice to highlight some of the music you’ll be able to hear live in the coming months.

Goodnight Moon -- Mermaid of Nova Scotia

"This show is based on the famous children’s book from the 1940s, which my parents read to me as a child in the 1950s, and I read to my kids when they were little in the 1990s, " Hudson says. "And I expect to read to my grandchildren someday once my sons get with the program."

The show includes puppetmasters dressed head-to-toe in black, and actors dressed in animal costumes. The stage is illuminated with black lights, so the sets and props glow. Note that the performances are early – you can take little kids to see this one and still get home by bedtime.

Showtimes are at the Mondavi Center at UC Davis on Sunday, Nov. 6 at 3 p.m.

Sacramento Baroque Soloists

They are a locally-based period instrument group from Davis, performing on gut-strung violins and cellos.

Mariachi Sol de Mexico

Mariachi Sol de Mexico de Jose Hernandez visits Sacramento and Modesto later this month. Their snappy, tight-fitting outfits make them look almost like superheroes.
