Award-winning storytellers from around the world are gathering in the Sierra foothills this weekend for three days of performances.

The Sierra Storytelling Festival kicks off Friday, July 22 and runs through Sunday at the North Columbia Schoolhouse.

Today on Insight, we’ll meet one of the featured tellers. Regi Carpenter is a performance artist and author whose award-winning story SNAP!, about her own mental breakdown and institutionalization at age 16, has been featured on The Moth website.

In addition to performing at this weekend’s festival, Carpenter also has a new memoir, “Where There’s Smoke, There’s Dinner – Stories of a Seared Childhood.”
