Did you hear that Wilco just released its latest album on the Internet for free? We’ll hear a selection from it in this week’s Sound Advice. Nick Brunner, host of Capital Public Radio’s eclectic music show Blue Dog Jam, shares some notable new music for the summer. We’ll also hear songs from Ariane Moffatt, Ghostface Killah and Wimps, who play locally next month.

Ariane Moffatt - "22h22" from the album 22h22
On the title track to her latest record, the Canadian singer channels the gentle breathy style you hear from artists like Regina Spektor. I'm not sure of the exact reason but with each listen, the piece seems far shorter than its 3:21 run time.  

Ghostface Killah - "Rise Up" feat. Scarub from the album Adrian Younge presents: 12 Reasons To Die II
The various members of the Wu-Tang Clan never stay idle long. Ghostface Killah's continues the themes found on the 2013 concept record 12 Reasons to Die. It tells a story of violence and revenge in the streets of New York City in the mid-1970s. It features guest spots from Wu-Tang members Raekwon and Rza plus Vince Staples, Lyrics Born and Scarub. The beats, produced by Adrian Younge hearken back to exploitation film soundtracks and that's what really sells it for me.

Wimps - "Take It As It Comes" from the album Super Me
Three chords. Hard times. Eye rolling at convention. Punk. Straight up. Wimps are a Seattle three-piece band just signed to the Kill Rock Stars label. The band will release Super Me on cassette and will be playing in Sacramento on August 11th at The Colony (3512 Stockton Blvd.).
