Elk Grove has a reputation for being one of Sacramento’s more affluent suburbs. But it’s location on the southern edge of the metro region means it’s also home to a large number of migrant farm workers. Many of these families are struggling to feed their children and find adequate health care, which is why Elk Grove Food Bank Services Executive Director Marie Jachino came to create a mobile food pantry.

Six years ago, she saw migrant families in need of the services her organization provides but without transportation. So she designed a food bank that comes to them. It offers food, fresh produce, clothes, preventive medical screenings, pesticide exposure training and more. A major fundraiser for the EGFBS and the mobile food pantry is the Run 4 Hungry this Saturday. Jachino joins us to talk about the food pantry and the Run 4 Hungry.
