Lara Downes’ newest album is a tribute to jazz legend Billie Holiday. Downes, a life-long fan of Holiday’s and a classically-trained pianist, puts an instrumental spin on the jazz vocalist’s most famous songs. The album, “A Billie Holiday Songbook,” is entirely solo piano and is being released days before the late singer’s 100^th birthday. Downes spoke with Beth Ruyak at a newly donated Steinway Grand piano in Davis High School’s theater building earlier this month. The album release party for “A Billie Holiday Songbook” is Tuesday night at the Davis High Theater. Billie Holiday’s 100th birthday is April 7, 2015.
