Governor Jerry Brown continued his showdown with UC President Janet Napolitano this past Friday when he released a budget proposal that didn’t include the funding increase she wants. The budget proposal did, however, include a boost for California’s community colleges. Under Brown's plan the California Community College District and the state’s K-12 education system will receive $65.7 billion in fiscal year 2015-2016, which represents a 39 percent increase in funding over the past four years. To add to this news, President Barack Obama announced Thursday that he wants to make community college free in America to any student who is willing to work for it. Joining us to talk about how the president’s proposal and the possible funding increase will affect California’s community colleges is the chancellor of the state system, Brice Harris.
