The King fire is burning a swath across the El Dorado and Tahoe National Forests approaching the size of Lake Tahoe and blanketing the surrounding areas with smoke. Events like Squaw Valley’s upcoming Oktoberfest has been cancelled because of poor air quality and schools in Reno are deciding whether to let students play outside or not. Even orchards in Apple Hill, which has seen clear skies following the first days of the fire, are suffering from the perception that the area is clouded with smoke.
