Telecommuting During Fix 50 Commuting to work isn’t a problem until it is. Your car can break down, bad weather can close roads or you can be subject to a major roadway resurfacing project like the one that will be jamming Sacramento streets for the next couple months. There are ways around Fix 50 for commuters –like public transit and alternative routes-, but one option may be taking the commute out of the picture. Working from home, AKA telecommuting or telework, is easier now than ever with all the technology available. But will your job allow you to telecommute? Should it? Here to explain how telecommuting may help ease the impact of Fix 50 on Sacramento roadways is CalHR Communications Director Patricia MConahay, who helps facilitate the State of California’s telework program, and President of Global Workplace Analytics Kate Lister, who consults businesses on telework options.

Biodigestion Davis is unveiling a Renewable Energy Anaerobic Digester this Earth Day (Tuesday). The digester will turn organic waste from campus and other sources into energy for the campus electrical grid. We'll speak with Ruihong Zhang, UC Davis professor of biological and agricultural engineering and inventor of the technology used in the UC Davis Renewable Energy Anaerobic Digester and CleanWorld CEO Michele Wong, which has opened two other biodigesters in the Sacramento area.

Sacramento Chamber Music Society The Sacramento Chamber Music Society is performing an Earth Day concert and celebration at the UC Davis’ Mondavi Center Friday. It will be concluding the 2013-14 season with performances of pieces by Aaron Copeland and Mahler’s “The Song of the Earth.” We’ll talk with Mathew Krejci and soprano singer Carrie Hennessey about the performance.

Tom Myers:
Tom, along with his wife Sally, Myers are scrap artists and long-time Land Park residents. They recently revived their famous “wood sculptures” made popular in the 1970’s. Tom passed away on April 7 from cancer. Read about his life and his work here.
