Kushman By The Bottle In the next installment of Kushman by the Bottle. Capital Public Radio’s resident wine expert Rick Kushman joins us to talk about the joys of wine tasting in Northern California.
The three wines selected for Rick's Picks are all Rioja's, meaning they are Tempranillo from the Rioja region. What makes them fun is that they are in the ascending order Rioja's aging designation. THey are similar wine, each aged longer. All of these wines can be found in wine shops and stores or online:
- Marques de Caceres Red Crianza 2009
- Marques de Riscal Rioja Reserve 2007

The Synthesizer If you lived through the 1970’s and 1980’s you’re probably all too familiar with the synthesizer. The electronic instrument –typically a keyboard- scored horror films in the 1950’s and left its mark in songs by bands like The Beatles and Van Halen. Currently the instrument has dropped out of main stream music, but it hasn’t dropped out of the hearts’ of some fans. Mark Vail is a former editor for Keyboard Magazine and has recently written a comprehensive book on the synthesizer. Vail will be talking about his book “The Synthesizer: A Comprehensive Guide to Understanding, Programming, Playing, and Recording the Ultimate Electronic Music Instrument” Friday at The Avid Readerin Davis. The talk will also feature a mini-synth jam.
