Talented Young People Take To The Airwaves For CapRadio’s Inaugural Student Musician Showcase
If you heard them perform live on CapRadio Music during the week of September 24th, and didn’t know they were students, you might have thought you were hearing a CD recorded by professional musicians. That’s how good the participants in our first-ever Student Musician Showcase were!
In addition to their performances, these young musicians responded to questions from CapRadio hosts Kevin Doherty, Victor Forman, Beth Ruyak, Gary Vercelli and Devan Kortan, about why they are drawn to classical music and/or jazz. You can hear the full hour-long segments at our website. You can also listen to the individual pieces that were performed live on the air our special Student Musician Showcase section.
Thanks to all of the talented young people who took part in our showcase.
Rio Americano High School’s jazz “tRio” included Jake Nalangan on piano, Maddy Hill on bass, and Joseph Bly drums.
From Folsom High School we welcomed the piano-less jazz quartet of Brian Nipper on tenor sax, Matthew Wang on trombone, Sophia Augustine on bass and Eli Strombom on drums.
Davis High School supplied the Amati Trio consisting of Sue Bin Park on violin, Janet Liu on piano and Nina Martin on cello.
We capped off our showcase with a string quartet from the Sacramento Youth Symphony whose members are all from the Luong family. They include Brandon and Connor, ages 16 and 14, on violins, Olivia, 12, on cello and Isabella, 9, on viola.
Our aim with the Student Musician Showcase was to shine a light on some of the outstanding young musicians we have living and learning throughout our region. We also want to recognize the programs and schools that are developing their talents. If you didn’t hear any of our showcase live, spend some time visiting our special section. You are guaranteed to be inspired!
