In the 1980s, conflicting community factions came together to save a beautiful river and transform a California Gold Rush town into a model of sustainability. That’s the premise of documentary producer John deGraaf’s latest film, “Redefining Prosperity.”
Airing April 23 on KVIE, “Redefining Prosperity: The Gold Rushes of Nevada City” is an hourlong exploration of how conservatives and liberals — often at odds in the small Sierra town — worked together to keep dams off the Yuba River.
DeGraaf joins Insight host Beth Ruyak in studio to talk about the film and how it’s inspired an even bigger project for the prolific producer.
