A play within a play, the story of "Marat/Sade" dates back to the French Revolution and brings the audience inside the insane asylum of Charenton.

The play follows the Marquis de Sade, who was imprisoned for his atrocities during the Revolution and directs a production done by the inmates about the famous French revolutionary Jean Paul Marat. The play has been performed two other times over 30 years in Nevada City and UpStart Theatre Company is making it their inaugural debut.
