What happens when the person you love tries to kill you? Alice Anderson faced that dilemma is the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina.

As she returned to her home to assess the damage from the storm, she also discovered her husband’s mental health was on the decline, leading to a violent encounter that would take her – and her three children – on an entirely different course.

Anderson, a poet who now lives in Sacramento, tells her story in a new memoir “Some Bright Morning, I’ll Fly Away.”
