Romayne Wheeler’s passion for classical music has taken him around the globe. At a young age, he moved from northern California to Vienna, Austria to study piano, and went on to become a prolific composer and performer.
Then 20 years ago he packed his Steinway in a dump truck and moved to the Sierra Tarahumara mountains in Mexico. He built a hospital for youth, a private airstrip so doctors could gain access to the remote region, and he took on a young indigenous man to be his protégé.
Wheeler performed original music, and told his extraordinary story on Insight with Beth Ruyak. You can see a video of his performance below.
