Pianist-composer Ahmad Jamal passed away April 16 in his home in Ashley Falls, Massachusetts, He was 92. Miles Davis, wrote in his autobiography, “Ahmad knocked me out with his concept of space, his lightness of touch, his understatement, and the way he phrases notes and chords and passages.” Davis went on to describe sending Red Garland, Paul Chambers and Philly Joe Jones on field trips during the mid-’50s to observe Jamal’s trio strategies,
