Excellence in Jazz is celebrating the women of jazz all month during Women's History Month. Tonight we shine the spotlight on Jane Bunnett and Maqueque!
Canadian born Jane Bunnett is widely respected as a musician and educator. As a soprano saxophonist and flautist, she travels regularly to Cuba.
- In 2014 Jane funded an all-female Afro-Cuban group Maqueque. They have performed at jazz festivals throughout the world.
- Two documentaries have been made about Jane's work, Spirits of Havana and Embracing Voices.
- Jane has been nominated for three Grammys and was awarded Canada's Premier's Award for Excellence.
We'll also feature Juttta Hip and Mary Dipaola-Davis.
