Pyotr Ilyich Tchaikovsky, 1880. Source: Library of Congress
Tchaikovsky came late in life to writing chamber music and eventually composed only about a half dozen pieces. One of them, his masterful Piano Trio in A-minor, is elegiac and mournful yet stunningly beautiful. For this anniversary of 9/11, it’s today’s Midday Masterpiece.
