The early Violin Sonata No. 1 by Gabriel Fauré was rapturously welcomed at its premiere in 1877, with the audience demanding an encore of the scherzo third movement. And the praise didn't stop there. Composer Camille Saint-Saëns said, "with this work Monsieur Fauré takes his place among the masters.” Elite musicians of the day incorporated it into their own recitals. And Marcel Proust gushed over it, even paying tribute to it in his novel In Search of Lost Time. The career-changing Violin Sonata No. 1 by Gabriel Fauré is today's Midday Masterpiece.
