A new couple are walking through a moonlit woods at night when the woman confesses to her new beau that she's carrying another man's child. After a pause, the man tells her not to worry, the beauty of the night has transfigured the rejection she feared into acceptance and tells her that through their love the child will be their own. That's the poem that inspired Arnold Schoenberg's romantic work for strings, "Transfigured Night," today's Midday Masterpiece at 2pm.
And for Women's History Month, today we highlight American composer Valerie Coleman and Mexican-American conductor Alondra de la Parra.
