Disney and Marvel are coming out with a new Fantastic Four movie — and the City of Stockton is hoping to play a part.
The franchise reboot isn’t due until 2025, but signatures are being gathered for a petition to have Stockton featured as the superheroes’ hometown.
“Stan Lee and Marvel Comics named Stockton, California, the birthplace of the Fantastic 4,” Mayor Kevin Lincoln said about the Fantastic Four’s creator. “In fact, Stan Lee stood at City Hall and proclaimed it.”
In the original Fantastic Four storyline, the group lived in Central City, California. But back in 1985, hundreds of signatures were gathered to make Stockton their home.
Lincoln is looking to bring his city into the Marvel Comics Universe and says there’s even more history to his claim.
“We here in Stockton think it’s only right that Stockton be featured in the film,” the mayor said. “Why Stockton you may ask? We say why not Stockton?”
It’s not yet clear if Mr. Fantastic, the Thing, Invisible Girl and the Torch will find themselves living in the 209. But you can sign the petition by visiting Fantastic4Stockton.com.
