Updated at 6:05 p.m. We've added information from Yolo County health officials that this in the fourth death in the county, there are now 101 cases in the county, and that the nursing home is in Woodland.
Yolo County says one person has died and 34 others have been sickened by COVID-19 at a single nursing home in Woodland, which it is not identifying.
In a statement, the county says “the facility is working closely with Yolo County staff and emergency responders and have received additional support and resources.”
Staff and residents who have tested positive are in isolation and are being monitored, according to the county.
In a statement, Yolo County Public Health Officer Dr. Ron Chapman said, “Nursing homes are at very high risk for COVID-19 outbreaks. In most nursing home outbreaks, the virus is introduced from visitors and staff. Unfortunately, this means that people need to stay at home and not visit their loved ones.”
Chapman says all nursing home staff are required to be screened for COVID-19 symptoms and have their temperatures taken before starting their shifts.
The county reports 101 Yolo County residents have tested positive. All told, four people have died from COVID-19 in Yolo County.
Residents are encouraged to continue to follow guidance from public officials to prevent the spread of illness. These measures include:
- Staying home if you are sick.
- Following the health order to shelter in place.
- Practicing social distancing.
- Washing hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds.
- Cleaning all “High-Touch” surfaces every day, following use instructions on the label.
