A former employee has sued the California State Senate, Human Resources Director Jeannie Oropeza and Secretary of the Senate Daniel Alvarez.
The woman — who is not named in the lawsuit — claims she was fired nine months after reporting she was raped by a colleague in the state Assembly.
She makes eight allegations in the suit.
Two allege the defendants failed to reasonably accommodate her after the attack and did not prevent discrimination or retaliation as she attempted to cope with the emotional fallout from the attack.
Three allege retaliation for her filing complaints with the Assembly and the Senate and for continuing to complain about being forced to work with the man she says assaulted her.
The other two causes of action include violation of state labor code when she was fired and negligent infliction of emotional distress.
The suit was filed in Sacramento Superior Court. The filing leaves open the option to include 20 more defendants.
Capital Public Radio has asked for comment from the Senate, but has not received a response.
