Kennedy High School in South Sacramento was evacuated this morning after multiple students received text messages about a bomb threat.
Principal David Van Natten called Kennedy parents early this morning to let them know about the evacuation.
“Many of your students have received a random text threat this morning directly to their phones,” the message stated.
A Sacramento Police spokesperson confirmed that students received a bomb threat. The campus was evacuated by 11:15 a.m.
Students were relocated to a nearby Elks Lodge on Riverside Boulevard.
“We're taking it very serious. We don't know if it's true or not, but we're certainly going to make sure the school is safe for the kids,” a Sacramento police spokesperson said earlier in the day.
The spokesperson added that the threat focused on two buildings, but that law enforcement is taking the precaution of checking the entire school.
Law enforcement swept the school and no devices were located. The school was reopened in the afternoon.
