Grammy Award-winning rap artist Common is putting on a free concert in Sacramento Monday night to raise awareness of criminal justice issues. It'll be held on the Capitol Mall and it'll affect downtown traffic.
The Imagine Justice Concert at the Capitol will feature Common, J. Cole, and other artists and speakers.
Organizers want to build support for several criminal justice reform bills being considered in the California legislature.
One measure would lessen the use of bail, which some say is unfairly leaving poor people stuck in jail.
The City of Sacramento is expecting 25,000 visitors to attend the ticketed event.
Officials are encouraging downtown workers and concert goers to plan ahead for parking constraints and street closures around the Capitol Mall.
The following closures will be in effect through Tuesday morning:
- Capitol Mall between 8th and 9th Streets will be closed from 4 a.m. on Sunday. to 6 a.m. on Tuesday.
