Coryn Rivera of Tustin, California won a mad dash to the line to win stage 3.
Afterward, Rivera gave credit to her Team Sunweb teammates.
“We had Juliette (Labous) take us up the left side. There was a little bit of chaos to our right, so we tried to stay focused on the plan. There was a couple other stronger riders taking the front on the lead out, and once they blew off we hit the front. Julia (Soek) took us through the last corner, and we did as long of a pull as we could on the final straight. It was a perfect final lead out going to the line,” said Rivera.
The future is now at Amgen. Cuban, Arlenis Sierra (Astana) is not only holding the Best Young Rider jersey, but also the Best Sprinter jersey as she finished second in stage 3.
The stage took riders from Elk Grove through the Sacramento Delta and into the capital city's downtown.
Georgia Bronzini of Italy and Wiggle High5 Pro Cycling finished third.
Another California girl still leads the overall race. Katie Hall (United Healthcare), is from Saratoga and leads Anna van der Breggen (Boels Dolmans) by one second.
“Better than no seconds," she said after the race. "It really is an honor to be wearing the yellow (leader's) jersey for the women in my home state.”
Hall knows the challenge in front of her.
“We do love the stage (stage 4)," she said. "We’ve been here a couple of times. We’re excited to fight tomorrow.”
Stage 1 winner Megan Guarnier is still in third, 29 seconds behind.
Now, 43.5 miles stand between one rider and the title. The women will start at 12:30 and ride a 2.2 mile circuit 20 times.
