The Sacramento City Council will vote Thursday whether to approve $300,000 to provide legal services for undocumented immigrants and their families.
The proposal from the city manager's office would put the $300,000 toward a network of non profits and attorneys.
They would have the goal of helping undocumented people and their families. They would also help make legal arrangements for children who remain in the United States when a parent is deported.
The network will also host events for undocumented people to understand their rights and what assistance is available.
The City expects the network will assist 750 families every year.
The council will also consider an update to a 1985 safe haven ordinance. It originally created a sanctuary city for people fleeing Guatemala and El Salvador.
