A California affiliate of the National Rifle Association is suing the state in what it promises will be the first of a series of challenges to new gun laws.
The California Rifle and Pistol Association filed the suit yesterday in Santa Ana federal court. It challenges a prohibition on the sale of semi-automatic rifles equipped with "bullet buttons"--mechanisms that allow removal of ammunition magazines using the tip of a bullet. Lawmakers said those circumvented a state ban on detachable magazines.
Gun rights groups say the law and other new limits on magazine capacity and ammunition violate Second Amendment rights.
