Update 10:12 a.m., March 29: The head of U.S. immigration enforcement defended recent deportations in California in front of a heated crowd in Sacramento.
He chose Sacramento — the California capital, where legislative Democrats want to bar state and local authorities from working with federal agents and effectively create a "sanctuary state."
Update 10:53 p.m.: Sacramento Sheriff Scott Jones and Immigration and Customs Enforcement Acting Director Thomas Homan took questions about the working relationship between the two agencies at a public forum Tuesday night.
Sacramento Mayor Darell Steinberg and several Sacramento city officials were front and center when it came to criticizing the Trump administration's immigration policies and ICE's deportation practices.

Update 7:45 p.m.: A community forum on immigration with the head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement Thomas Homan and Sheriff Scott Jones drew hundreds of supporters, and protesters.
Sacramento Mayor Darrel Steinberg and California Senate leader Kevin de Leon were also present. They spoke at a unity rally ahead of the forum and were joined by about 50 protestors.
After delivering a few remarks, Homan and Jones took questions from attendees.
Steinberg directed a question at Homan. "How can you assure the public your agency won't be asked to deport dreamers and law-abiding families?" he asked.
"I do not know," said Homan as to whether Trump will continue to allow DACA "dreamers" to stay in the US and not be subject to deportation.
Homan and Jones were interrupted by protesters numerous times during the forum. Some were escorted out after being asked to not be disruptive. Protests continued outside the venue as the forum wrapped up.

Original: A community forum on immigration planned for Tuesday in Sacramento with the head of U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Sheriff Scott Jones, is prompting protests and a counter rally.
ICE Acting Director Thomas Homan will talk about how immigration enforcement is being prioritized and Jones will answer questions about what role the Sacramento County Sheriff's Department plays.
The forum will be at the Sacramento Youth Gymnasium on Branch Center Road from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. Meanwhile outside the gymnasium before the forum, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg will lead - what's being called a "Unity Rally"with Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de Leon and leaders from Sacramento community, faith-based, labor and business groups.
Tuesday night's forum comes a day after U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions warned that so-called "sanctuary cities" could lose federal money for refusing to cooperate with immigration authorities.
