Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg was in Washington Wednesday when President Donald Trump released his budget proposal.
Trump's plan calls for increases to military spending. Steinberg says it would also decrease funding for social programs that would affect Sacramento.
"The streetcar obviously, the cuts to community development, block grants, and housing," says Steinberg. "I mean, it's a bad budget proposal across the board. But, it's just that — a proposal."
Steinberg says the budget process is a lengthy one and he is not "overly worried" about potential cuts."Obviously if you react to every single thing that comes out of this administration and react as if it's the last word, you will drive yourself mad," he says.
Steinberg says he hopes Trump's promise of more infrastructure spending will counter some of the cuts proposed in this budget.
The mayor was part of a Sacramento delegation this week at the U.S. Capitol. The group met with the California Congressional delegation and a White House representative.
