People who evacuated to shelters due to the Oroville Dam scare received two unexpected Valentine's Day treats today: the lifting of the evacuation order and Valentine's day cookies.
Stephen's Farmhouse in Yuba City had been working for the last month to make thousands of cookies for Valentine's Day. But, when the evacuation order came down, there wasn't anyone around to buy them.
So, Cherie Stephens donated them.
"We baked them off in the last day or so. We've been frosting for nine, 10 hours a day with a crew of three or four people. You just sit there and think, 'I'm not going to see 4,000 cookies go underwater if it floods when somebody could have enjoyed them in a shelter.'"
Stephens had Assemblyman James Gallagher deliver the cookies as he visited shelters in his district.
Stephens' Farmhouse had been preparing the cookies to sell at a discount to local schools as part of a fundraising effort.
