The shooting death of a Grant High School football player has led to the arrest of 20 gang members in north Sacramento.
A Strawberry Manor Gangster Bloods member was charged last year with the 2015 death of JJ Clavo. The department says that shooting and many calls for service in Del Paso Heights led them to go after the gang.
Captain Marc Coopwood says some of the charges include: attempted murder, human trafficking, robbery, narcotics, and firearms. But there are no more charges pending in the Clavo case.
"We're looking at all the evidence," says Coopwood. "We're working through some stuff at the Sacramento County Crime Labs and we're always hopeful that we're going to be able to put missing pieces of the puzzle together to make additional arrests."
The department says Clavo had no gang ties and was not the intended target in the drive-by shooting.
Coopwood says the department is trying to convince the remaining 80 members of the Strawberry Manor Bloods to leave the gang.
"We do have curriculum that we can bring into those communities and that we are bringing into those communities in the intervention and the prevention efforts," says Coopwood.
The department has warrants out for the arrest of three more gang members who may have left the state.
The police department was helped by the California Highway Patrol, California Department of Justice, the Sacramento County District Attorney's office, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Exlplosives.
