The head of the University of California system is further voicing her support for protecting undocumented students.
UC President Janet Napolitano said Monday on CNN, information collected about students is private under federal law, and the UC system will work to keep it confidential.
She also stressed her support for President Obama's Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals - or DACA.
The program is used by students known as dreamers, who were brought into the U-S illegally as young children.
"DACA was a good program when it was started, it's not a blanket amnesty. These are really good young people, students who have passed all kinds of background checks. DACA ought to be continued," Napolitano told CNN.
Napolitano says UC Police will focus on campus safety and are not adjunct federal officers.
People critical of Napolitano's recent statements say she's acting prematurely as President-Elect Trump has yet to formally set his immigration policy.
