People who live in the City of Sacramento will be asked to approve a 75 dollar tax on parcels within the Sacramento Unified School District.
The Measure G tax would expire after six years.
Mayor-elect Darrell Steinberg supports the measure.
"We had 61 after-school START sites. We're now down to about 30. I know that arts and music have been cut from the school and there aren't the budgets to do more in those areas and Measure G will provide a big boost," says Steinberg.
In its argument against the measure in the voter guide, The Sacramento Taxpayers Association says the district already has 852 million dollars in bonds and that the language in Measure G is too vague.
Senior citizens could avoid the tax if they apply for an exemption before July first of next year.
A two-thirds vote is required for this measure to pass.
