Some Sacramento high school students are getting their poetry in front of a lot of people this fall. You'll have to get on a bus to read them.
The works of six young people from Visions in Education Charter School and West Campus High School are being posted on 225 Sacramento Regional Transit buses.
Syrai Harris is 13 and goes to West Campus High.
"My poem is about being your own hero and being yourself and not letting other people kind of control your life for you."
Six poems were selected out of 40 submitted by the Sacramento Poetry Center and are accompanied by illustrations on the inside of RT buses.
Katie McCleary runs the 916 Ink non-profit organization that offers creative writing workshops to Sacramento students.
"We support youth voice, we support what they're thinking about, they have meaningful and interesting stuff to say and they can be an active to society by using their voice even though they're not technically an adult."
A different student is recognized each month. The poems and art will be displayed through January.
