Sacramento Mayor Kevin Johnson's staff says he will press charges against a man who assaulted him at a "farm to fork" event on the Sac High campus Wednesday night.
The assault occurred at about 6:45 p.m. when a man hit the Mayor with a pie.
The Sacramento Police Department says the man has been identified as 32-year-old, Sean Thompson.
The Sacramento Police Department says there was a scuffle and Thompson was injured as the Mayor's security detail made an arrest.
Thompson has been arrested on a felony charge of assaulting a public official and was booked into the Sacramento County Jail.
Johnson's Chief of Staff, Crystal Strait, says she had never seen the man before, but that the attack was "scary."
Strait says she did not hear the man say anything or give a reason for the attack.
At about 10:15 p.m., the mayor sent out a tweet, "Appreciate everyone. I'm doing fine. Thank you to Sac PD for being there. Be safe everyone."
