People who ride mass transit in Sacramento have a new way to report suspicious activity on light rail trains and buses.
Sacramento Regional Transit today launched a new app intended to help increase safety. It's called Alert SacRT. Sacramento Police Captain Norm Leong heads security for RT.
"A lot of times we'll have people playing loud music or being disruptive on the trains," says Leong. "People now can simply open their app, initiate a call for service for us reporting the issue, the train they're on and then also allows us to have GPS location of where they're at when they're reporting the issue."
Users can send pictures, text messages and six-second videos.
The new app, which Android users can get via Google Play and Apple users can access through the App Store, is part of RT's effort to boost security. The agency is also extending security hours at various park-and-ride stations.
