Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition
The creators of a new online map hope it will increase bicycle traffic around Lake Tahoe while decreasing vehicle use.
The map shows bike trails, traffic conditions, bike shops and bike racks around Lake Tahoe.
Chris Carney is with the Lake Tahoe Bicycle Coalition. He says the map will help increase the number of bicycle trips, especially for tourists.
"When people are putting in their start and end point to get directions, they can now select whether they would rather stay on a bike path or a bike lane or they'd rather take the most direct route," says Carney. "So, that's going to really make it easier for people who want to bike around here and need to find a better way to get to their end destination."
The site will also collect accident reports and the coalition will review them to identify areas around the lake that might be unsafe for cyclists.
The coalition believes the map will increase bicycle traffic and decrease air pollution.
The bicycle coalition has previously produced a paper map, which will still be available at locations around the lake.
