About 160 events will be held this weekend at the USA Track and Field Junior Olympics at Sacramento State. Kids from all over the country are competing and learning something about themselves.
They are as young as seven and as old as 18.
Kenneth Larue III is eight and is competing in three sprint events.
This morning, he had a big grin on his face even though he didn't win his heat.
"I did my best today," says Larue.
He's from Columbus, Ohio. Competitors qualify to get here through state and regional competitions.
Montana Mayo is 10 and from Seattle. He qualified for the shot put, javelin, and the 4x100 meter relay. He's proud of his perseverance.
"Never give up. I wanted to give up at my first track meet. I was like, 'I'm done.' But, I didn't," says Mayo.
About 7,500 athletes are participating in this week's Junior Olympics. The event ends Sunday.
