Thirteen thousand teachers across California are participating at 40 sites for a three-day "Better Together California Teachers Summit."
Tom Torlakson is the state Superintendent of Public Instruction. According to him, teachers will participate in training and workshops today and this weekend.
"They're here to expand their capacity, to become better teachers, to share their best lesson plans and their best practices and so it's a wonderful opportunity," he says.
Katy Kraemer is a teacher from Roseville. She says teachers can break off into different sessions. She's focused on new ways to reach children.
"Keeping up on all of that new technology and innovation allows me to stay connected to them and also allows me to change the curriculum that I'm presenting to them in a way that they can understand it, and appreciate it, and motivates them as well," she says.
This is the second year for the summit. The number of teachers who logged into the event this year is twice the number from last year.
