The races of people employed by the City of Sacramento do not match the levels of diversity found in the community. That's according to a report released today by City Auditor Jorge Oseguera. It shows 53 percent of the work force is white compared to 35 percent of the population.
Oseguera says it will be up to the Sacramento City Council to draw conclusions and make recommendations.
"This is a little different type of work by our office. Typically we would have findings and recommendations. But, in this particular piece, we're providing more of an informational report that provides specifics regarding the gender and ethnic diversity of our employees," says Oseguera.
The report also shows males in management positions are twice as likely as female managers to earn more than $90,000 a year.
"We have the overall city employees perspective in regards to gender and ethnic diversity," says Oseguera. "We have the analysis for each individual city department. And that information will be provided to council so they can assess where we stand with regards to our diversity."
The percentage of Asians and Hispanics in the City workforce is about 20 percent below the populations in the community.
African Americans make up 13 percent of the population and 11 percent of the government work force.
