Aerial insecticide treatments to kill mosquito larvae will begin tomorrow in western Placer County after a spike in West Nile virus activity.
Ada Barros with the Placer Mosquito and Vector Control District says 26 mosquito samples have tested positive for West Nile in the past two weeks.
"We are mobilizing to adequately respond to this increase in West Nile virus activity," says Barros.
Last week, the mobilization included aerial and ground-based treatments to kill adult mosquitoes in the western part of Roseville and in Morgan Creek.
This week the district will concentrate on killing mosquito larvae in rice fields along the western border of Placer County.
"The aircraft will be flying very, very low to the ground because the application is meant to go right into the water that it's treating and not into the surrounding air," says Barros.
The planes will spray Tuesday through Friday.
