Several law enforcement agencies were dispatched to a residential neighborhood in Oroville this morning for calls of a mountain lion roaming the streets.
By the time officers arrived, the lion was in a tree in someone's backyard.
Lieutenant Chris Stoots is with the California Department of Fish and Wildlife. He says the lion was hit with a tranquilizer dart and is currently being monitored by a veterinarian.
"The lion's going to eventually be collared so that we can keep track of not only this lion, but also gather information of lion behavior based off of what this lion does in the future."
Stoots says it's not uncommon for people to see big cats on private properties that are adjacent to wildland areas. But, this lion was well inside a residential neighborhood.
The mountain lion weighs about 70 pounds and is two years old.
It will be released to Fish and Wildlife property east of Oroville.
