The new arena in downtown Sacramento is about four months from opening. There is still much planning to be done for Sacramento city departments to be ready.
Sacramento Police, traffic, and arena security cameras will all be installed at and around the new arena.
Justin Eklund is a captain with the police department.
"All three of those are viewed in three separate locations by three separate entities," says Eklund. "And, what we're doing is bringing city fiber into the arena, into the operations center of the arena so that all three of those cameras can be used by law enforcement personnel helping to manage the event."
Eklund says officers will begin training with security to patrol the arena during events. The Kings will reimburse the city for those costs.
Many local businesses will leave the lights on to create well-lit corridors from the arena to popular parking areas.
Sidewalks around the arena will be widened to improve pedestrian safety.
The city plans to launch a website and app to help people identify the best transportation options.
The first event at the Golden One Center is scheduled for October 4.
