Central Coast Wildfire Grows To More Than 3,800 Acres

(AP) - Officials say a wildfire burning in a rural and largely agricultural section of California's Central Coast has grown to more than 3,800 acres.

But state fire spokesman Daniel Berlant says the blaze is 40 percent contained and the growth slowed after sundown.

It broke out at about 3:30 p.m. Sunday and had burned just 800 acres in its first two hours but then surged to nearly 4,000 acres amid strong winds.

There are no reports of any injuries or any homes or other structures being threatened.

The fire is burning near Soledad in Monterey County between the Salinas River and Pinnacles National Park.

Two air tankers and one helicopter are helping 200 fire personnel take on the blaze.
