New job numbers show unemployment in the Sacramento area last month was the lowest it's been in nearly a decade.
The state Employment Development Department says unemployment in the four-county region was 5.1 percent in April. The last time it was that low was in April of 2007.
Cara Welch with the department breaks down April's numbers by county.
"The unemployment rate was 5 percent in El Dorado County, 4.3 percent in Placer County, 5.2 percent in Sacramento County and 5.6 percent in Yolo County," says Welch.
She says nearly all job sectors saw gains in April, including: agriculture, construction and professional and business services. But the gains were offset by losses in trade, transportation and utilities and health care and social assistance.
April's unemployment rate of 5.1 percent was down from 5.4 percent in March, and a drop from 5.7 in April of last year.
The statewide unemployment rate in April was 5.3 percent, down from 5.4 percent in March and a drop from 6.5 percent in April of last year. The U.S. unemployment rate was unchanged in April at 5 percent.
