Stockton Mayor Anthony Silva touched on finances, safety and the future during the 18th State of the City speech. The mayor addressed a packed house of about a thousand people, just a year after the city exited bankruptcy.
Mayor Anthony Silva spoke about the progress the city has made in coming out of bankruptcy and perhaps leading with a note of caution.
“We cannot repeat the mistakes of the past, we must be wiser, we may not get a second chance.”
Silva says problems still to be solved include retaining more police, curbing crime, and homelessness.
He says there is reason to be optimistic as the quality of life is looking better for Stockton.
“The Asparagus Festival is here, we brought back the 4th of July fireworks show, we’re making an attempt to open public libraries, we’re opening swimming pools again, and we’re an All American City once again.”
