Mail carriers with the U.S. Post Office will do double duty Saturday as they pick up letters, packages, and food.
Saturday is the national "Stamp Out Hunger" canned food drive.
Kelly Siefkin is with the Sacramento Food Bank which is asking you to donate canned fruit, vegetables, soup, and noodles.
"It's really easy. You open and put a bag on your porch or wherever your mail is being picked up and those items will be transported by your letter carrier back to the postal offices," Siefkin says. "During the day for Stamp Out Hunger, we will have staff and volunteers sorting at each one of the different postal offices."
Last year, mail carriers collected 250 tons of food between Fresno and the Oregon state line.
People in the Sacramento region donated about one-fifth of that.
Stamp Out Hunger is the largest one-day food drive in the United States.
